This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Offer legal advice and services to World Vision International and the wider World Vision Partnership.
• Collaborate with and follow the guidance of the General Counsel.
• Work alongside other members of the Legal Department.
• Support the organization and Partnership in fulfilling their mission while adhering to relevant laws and maintaining an acceptable level of legal risk.
• Identify legal challenges and issues, providing practical guidance to in-house clients.
• Engage in negotiations and conduct legal research.
• Interact with external counsel and assist with cross-border, multijurisdictional matters.
• Contribute within a cross-cultural, international nonprofit context.
• Juris Doctorate from the US or equivalent foreign degree.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney.
• Some experience in a prominent global law firm and with cross-border, multijurisdictional matters is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of fundamental legal principles.
• Capability to recognize problems and legal issues, offering practical advice to in-house clients.
• Proficient negotiation and research abilities.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Experience working with external counsel, ideally with a global perspective and general knowledge of international affairs.
• Awareness of and experience with cross-cultural situations.
• Familiarity or experience with countries in the developing world is highly beneficial.
• Preference for candidates with experience in both law firms and corporate in-house legal teams.
• Experience in non-US legal systems, particularly the Civil Law system, is preferred.
• Previous work with nonprofit organizations would be highly advantageous.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Fluency in an additional language, particularly Spanish, French, or Portuguese, is highly advantageous.
• Preferred admission to the California Bar, although this requirement may be waived for exceptional candidates admitted to the bar in other jurisdictions.
• Candidates must live in states where WVI is authorized to operate.
• The successful candidate will affirm World Vision’s foundational documents and maintain conduct that aligns with Christian principles, where legally permissible.
• Engage in a Christian humanitarian mission and service-oriented work.
• Consideration for remote work for applicants residing in states where WVI is registered to operate.
• Regular team and office devotions, chapel, and prayer gatherings in accordance with policies.
