Associate Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Represent clients in lawsuits initiated in New York courts.

• Manage various first-party insurance defense cases.

• Conduct legal research and draft briefs, legal opinions, and memoranda.

• Provide assessments on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.

• Prepare and oversee pleadings, motions, and discovery processes.

• Conduct depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.

• Defend assigned cases at trial or during dispositive hearings, as necessary.

• Serve in venues across Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, New York.

• Travel as needed to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in a relevant field, including litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.

• Juris Doctor degree is REQUIRED.

• Must be admitted to the New York Bar, which is REQUIRED.

• Must hold a valid license in good standing to practice law in New York.

• Must fulfill and maintain all licensing requirements, including any mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) obligations where applicable.

• Ability to travel as needed, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

• Capable of documenting files in a clear, concise, and professional written format.

• Must be able to follow intricate instructions, resolve conflicts, or facilitate conflict resolution.

• Strong skills in organization, prioritization, and multitasking.

• Ability to learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information.

• Preferred: Experience in civil litigation.

• Preferred: Experience related to insurance defense litigation.

• Must communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and through written correspondence/email.
