Associate Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Represent clients in lawsuits filed in New York courts.

• Manage various first-party insurance defense cases.

• Conduct legal research and draft legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.

• Provide insights on liability, damages, and value upon request from the Claims Department.

• Prepare and manage pleadings, motions, and discovery processes.

• Conduct depositions and examinations before trial, as well as examinations under oath.

• Defend assigned cases through trial or dispositive hearings, as appropriate.

• Serve in venues throughout Queens, NY as part of GEICO Staff Counsel.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in a relevant field, including litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.

• Juris Doctor degree is REQUIRED.

• Admission to the New York Bar is REQUIRED.

• Must hold a valid license in good standing to practice law in New York.

• Must fulfill and uphold licensing obligations, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.

• Must be willing to travel as necessary, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

• Must be capable of documenting files in a clear, concise, and professional manner.

• Must be able to comprehend complex instructions, resolve conflicts, or facilitate conflict resolution.

• Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking abilities are essential.

• Must be able to absorb and apply substantial amounts of technical and procedural information.

• Civil litigation experience is preferred.

• Experience in insurance defense-related litigation is preferred.

• Must be able to communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and through written correspondence/email.
