Associate Consultant, Distribution Planning Engineer – DER/DG Interconnection & Grid Mod

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +5 more locations.

📋 Description

• Conduct interconnection and distribution planning studies for DER/DG, encompassing hosting capacity, power flow, voltage analysis, and protection coordination.

• Assess the effects of DER, including solar, battery storage, and electric vehicles, while identifying system constraints and strategies for mitigation.

• Create and maintain distribution system models using platforms such as CYME, Synergi, or equivalents.

• Collaborate with teams across transmission, substation, distribution design, automation, and other cross-functional areas.

• Assist in client-facing project initiatives, which include technical discussions and reviews of studies.

• Ensure the quality and consistency of engineering deliverables across various projects.

• Encourage knowledge sharing within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.

• Over 2 years of experience in electric utility or distribution planning.

• Proficiency in distribution modeling and engineering analysis tools (e.g., CYME).

• Experience in supporting DER/DG interconnection or planning studies, such as feasibility or system impact assessments.

• Willingness to travel up to 5% as needed to assist clients and projects.

• FE/EIT certification or the capability to obtain it.

• Preferred experience with CYMTCC, Synergi, or ASPEN OneLiner.

• PE certification preferred.

• Familiarity with Distribution Automation tasks, including FLISR/DACR/VVO/Perfect Power.

• Experience with large-scale DER studies (1 MW–10 MW), covering feasibility studies, system impact assessments, energy storage, and cluster studies.

• Knowledge of software automation and scripting.

• Experience in creating protective device settings files.

• Understanding of 8760 simulations utilizing LoadSEER or similar software.

• Experience addressing grid modernization challenges, including FLISR, electrification, protection and control, sectionalizing, and wildfire mitigation assessments.
