This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Develop and implement a public-facing communications strategy on national, regional, and state levels centered around SEIU’s union-wide priorities and campaigns.
• Lead the creation and execution of communications focused on SEIU’s organizing priorities, highlighting worker-centered campaign messaging.
• Build and nurture a team of campaign communicators to effectively carry out priority campaigns.
• Draft strategic communications plans and manage the development of talking points, campaign materials, op-eds, background documents, fact sheets, press kits, leaflets, brochures, and other collateral.
• Collaborate with digital strategy, communications, and design teams to create multimedia content.
• Develop and distribute communications strategies, messaging, and materials to IU Division and campaign staff.
• Enhance worker and stakeholder engagement while raising awareness of SEIU’s organizing goals.
• Coordinate strategic communications plans and objectives as a member of the communications department’s senior leadership team.
• Assist in internal and cross-sector movement building efforts.
• Provide leadership as an essential member of the national organizing communications team.
• Supervise individuals, campaign communications managers, staff, and consultants as necessary.
• Plan, budget, and manage projects in collaboration with divisions, departments, and campaign leaders.
• Focus on the growth and development of communications staff through training, feedback, performance reviews, and career advancement opportunities.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support the International Union.
• Travel frequently, including overnight stays, and work extended and irregular hours as required.
• Five to seven years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of unions and other advocacy organizations is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with practical communications and organizing experience, irrespective of formal education.
• Must be willing to travel frequently, including overnight stays.
• Availability for long and irregular working hours.
• Proficiency in developing and executing communications strategies.
• Strong writing skills for strategic communications plans, talking points, campaign materials, op-eds, background documents, fact sheets, press kit materials, leaflets, brochures, and other collateral.
• Ability to collaborate with digital strategy, communications, and design teams to create multimedia materials.
• Excellent planning, budgeting, and project management skills.
• Capability to coordinate with divisions, departments, and campaign leaders.
• Experience in managing, training, providing feedback, and fostering the development of communications staff.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Capacity to handle multiple priority projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Ability to represent the International Union with independent judgment and a high level of professionalism.
