Assistant Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Assist with the internal accounting operations of the company, including covering for leave requirements and overseeing a MYOB-to-Xero migration initiative.

• Transition into the outsourced accounting services division, delivering ongoing accounting assistance and financial reporting to clients in the hospitality sector.

• Oversee daily accounting functions, month-end financial processes, compliance support, and ensure the timely provision of financial information across various entities.

• Provide support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and management accounting tasks.

• Conduct transaction processing, maintain financial records, and complete reconciliations.

• Manage repetitive accounting responsibilities and deadlines for multiple client entities.

• Process daily takings from hospitality POS systems, including Wirely integrations.

• Handle accounts payable via Lightyear and manage limited accounts receivable transactions.

• Execute bank, clearing account, and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies in transactions.

• Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and perform month-end closing activities.

• Maintain fixed asset registers and schedules for capital expenditures.

• Generate monthly management reports and analyze variances.

• Create supporting schedules for the preparation of IAS and BAS lodgements.

• Assist with superannuation exceptions, payroll tax reconciliations, and relevant documentation.

• Ensure adherence to ATO regulations and internal protocols.

• Facilitate system implementations, process enhancements, and workflow automation.

• Collaborate with accounting, payroll, and HR teams, with potential client engagement as the role evolves.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

• At least 3 years of accounting experience within an Australian business context.

• In-depth knowledge of Australian accounting standards and ATO guidelines.

• Practical experience using Xero and MYOB software.

• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end procedures.

• Capability to prepare precise balance sheet reconciliations and financial schedules.

• Strong attention to detail, numerical precision, and effective communication skills.

• Ability to juggle multiple deadlines across various clients or entities.

• Comfort in working with multiple interconnected business systems.

• Experience in outsourced accounting, bookkeeping, or managed finance services is highly advantageous.

• Prior experience in the hospitality industry is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with hospitality POS reconciliations and daily revenue processing is highly desirable.

• Experience with Lightyear, Wirely, or similar platforms is highly beneficial.

• Background in managing fixed assets, capital expenditure schedules, management reporting, and IAS/BAS support is highly favored.

• Knowledge of payroll tax, superannuation reconciliations, and exception handling is highly desirable.

• Experience with accounting system migrations, particularly transitioning from MYOB to Xero, is a significant advantage.

• Familiarity with hospitality-specific software is highly desirable.

• Progress toward CPA Australia qualification is highly advantageous.
