Architectural Historian – Level 1

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Perform archival and background research.

• Execute architectural and historical field surveys, which may require overnight travel.

• Complete architectural inventory forms.

• Write reports on architectural and historical resources.

• Prepare Determination of Eligibility forms.

• Carry out fieldwork for extended hours as needed.

• Handle administrative tasks using a computer.

• Assist in composing sections of reports.

• Create figures for reports.

• Manage personal responsibilities while adhering to deadlines and project scope.

• Conduct quality control checks on fieldwork and documentation.

• Independently perform field surveys.

• Ensure adherence to budget and schedule.

• Discuss work performance with supervisors.

• Engage professionally with staff, clients, agency personnel, landowners, contractors, and other stakeholders.

• Maintain and care for company-issued field equipment.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

• An Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Master’s Degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field is preferred.

• Required Associate's Degree or higher in Anthropology or a related field.

• Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to write clearly and concisely.

• Capability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and government regulations.

• Excellent writing and communication skills are essential.

• A valid driver's license is required.

• Proficiency in reading and navigating field maps.

• Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act is preferred.

• Experience with large-scale power and energy projects, including pipeline, electric transmission, renewable energy, and related infrastructure projects.

• Knowledge of Esri software, including Field Maps and Survey123.

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, potentially up to 100% during weekdays, with occasional weekend travel or work.

• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including both heat and cold.

• Flexibility in work hours and a focus on safety.

• Familiarity with database software, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Knowledge of architectural styles, trends, date identification, architectural attributes, and materials.

• Strong skills in fieldwork, photography, mapping, note-taking, archival research, navigation, and sketch-mapping.

• Accurate completion of field forms and preparation of report figures.

• Basic knowledge of GPS locating equipment.

• Steel-toed boots are required for many project sites.

• Ability to work independently, follow directions, meet deadlines, and stay within budget and schedule.

• Strong oral and written communication skills with staff, clients, agency personnel, landowners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
