Archaeological Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Execute archaeological surveys, excavations, and construction oversight

• Engage in on-site communication with construction teams and Native American representatives during monitoring activities

• Keep detailed daily logs documenting construction processes, dialogues, and upcoming plans

• Communicate proficiently with crew leaders during survey operations

• Conduct scientific photography, measurements, artifact identification, and resource documentation

• Detect buried resources and accurately document them during excavation

• Collaborate effectively with archaeological field teams

• Travel to project sites for consecutive days

• Undertake outdoor fieldwork in challenging terrain, adverse weather conditions, high noise levels, and in proximity to moving vehicles and equipment

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology

• Completion of an accredited field school certification

• Prior experience with archaeological surveys in Arizona

• Competence in recording diverse site and isolate types within the region

• Ability to operate a 4WD vehicle safely

• Physical capability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. and to walk or hike for extended periods during fieldwork

• Willingness to travel to project sites for several consecutive days

• Valid driver's license

• Active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment

• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation

• Preferred: Previous archaeological survey experience in California, the Desert West, the Pacific Northwest, and/or the Mid-Atlantic

• Preferred: Experience with pedestrian surveys, testing/evaluation, and monitoring

• Preferred: Understanding of and willingness to safely work under challenging weather and environmental conditions

• Preferred: Proficiency in operating GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets

• Preferred: Familiarity with and experience using ESRI Collector and/or Field Maps
