Applied Science Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and oversee Clipboard's Applied Science division, taking charge of the strategic roadmap and vision for scientific initiatives within the marketplace.

• Lead a dedicated team of Applied Scientists and expand the function.

• Manage quantitative infrastructure, which includes pricing algorithms, auction systems, causal modeling, metric definitions, and experimental frameworks.

• Establish essential metrics, measurement methodologies, and performance reporting for the marketplace.

• Deliver models, experiments, and insights that support product and engineering teams.

• Prioritize tasks across engineering, product, finance, and operations departments.

• Balance production tasks with analytical responsibilities and assess the need for causal or directional analysis.

• Recruit and nurture the Applied Science team.

• Mentor Applied Scientists at various levels while addressing significant individual-contributor challenges.

• Collaborate with engineers to transition models from prototype to production.

• Articulate rationale to product managers, operators, and leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proven experience in developing and implementing quantitative models in applied or research contexts.

• Proficiency in querying data directly using SQL or a comparable tool.

• Experience in designing and evaluating controlled experiments.

• 1-3 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.

• PhD/Master’s in economics, operations research, statistics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent quantitative expertise derived from research or trading.

• A successful history of delivering predictive models from concept to production.

• Strong foundation in experimental design and causal inference.

• Experience in quantitative finance, economic consulting, marketplaces, or other data-driven environments where decisions have significant business implications.

• Must provide services in a country where authorized to work.
