This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Switzerland.
• Perform research and analysis on illicit economies as part of the Global Organized Crime Index initiative.
• Aid in the organization, execution, and follow-up of dissemination activities, which include analytical reports, podcasts, media interactions, and meetings with civil society organizations and experts.
• Facilitate coordination among the core Index team, GI-TOC personnel, GIN members, and outside experts.
• Engage in research, participate in events, and represent the Index team.
• Monitor task progress and maintain communication with experts using designated templates.
• Supervise daily research and the compilation of country profiles and summaries created by Research Assistants.
• Familiarize Research Assistants with the Index framework, methodology, research process, and their respective roles.
• Delegate tasks to Research Assistants for independent desk research on country profiles and provide guidance.
• Review the work of Research Assistants for quality, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
• Provide weekly updates to the core implementation team regarding country-profile progress, challenges, issues related to Research Assistants, and deadlines.
• Identify and reach out to organized-crime experts for scoring and validation purposes.
• Supervise the expert validation of country profiles and thematic areas.
• Oversee the verification process, ensure follow-up on deadlines, check submissions, and submit completed invoices from experts.
• Maintain records of Index progress.
• Synthesize expert feedback into final internal country profiles.
• Edit profiles for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and overall comprehensiveness.
• Incorporate significant country developments and revise text in line with Index guidelines.
• Develop, validate, and enhance the SCAR framework methodology.
• Conduct literature reviews and create questionnaires that measure organized-crime harms and capabilities.
• Research and finalize actor lists and profiles for the SCAR framework.
• Coordinate data collection and scoring of criminal groups in collaboration with relevant Observatories.
• Identify, engage, and coordinate experts contributing to the SCAR framework.
• Assist in drafting, editing, and designing Index publications.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a pertinent field, such as criminology, countering organized crime, international relations, or criminal justice.
• Experience in investigations, analysis, or research related to organized crime is preferred.
• Capability to identify information gaps, conduct research, synthesize information, and develop analysis under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in employing OSINT techniques as part of research efforts.
• Native or professional proficiency in both spoken and written English.
• Proficiency in an additional UN language is advantageous.
• Eager and motivated to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and effective time management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously with considerable independence.
• Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within regional and global teams.
• Good judgment when managing sensitive information.
• Practical task: complete either a Timor-Leste criminal-market/actor justification for 2025–2026 or an analytical brief utilizing Global Organized Crime Index data, not exceeding 800 words.
