AI Software Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with software and firmware teams to pinpoint practical AI applications, enhance workflows, and facilitate adoption.

• Mentor developers on AI-assisted tasks including coding, testing, documentation, refactoring, debugging, and modernizing legacy code.

• Develop actionable playbooks, prompt libraries, reusable patterns, and engineering standards.

• Assist in focused AI and software Kaizens, hackathon-style sessions, and technical workshops.

• Assess and advocate for emerging AI development tools, coding agents, RAG methodologies, agentic workflows, and other technologies that boost engineering productivity.

• Create proofs of concept that illustrate how AI can enhance engineering delivery and foster customer-facing innovations.

• Evaluate impact through metrics related to adoption, productivity, quality, DORA metrics, and other key indicators.

• Lead by influence across various Water Quality operating companies.

• Report to the CTO of AI & Software.

• Travel to work collaboratively with Water Quality teams throughout North America, with potential international collaboration as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Principal-level expertise in software engineering, firmware engineering, AI engineering, architecture, developer productivity, or a related technical leadership trajectory.

• Practical experience in utilizing AI development tools, large language models, RAG methodologies, MCP concepts, agentic workflows, coding agents, or AI-enhanced engineering platforms in real-world software settings.

• Capacity to swiftly comprehend unfamiliar codebases, development environments, and technical limitations, and identify opportunities for AI to deliver tangible value.

• Credibility among developers and the technical fluency to coach, prototype, troubleshoot, and lead by example.

• Excellent communication and change leadership abilities.

• Capability to influence teams without direct authority and assist them in embracing new operational methods.

• Experience in both software and embedded/firmware development environments (preferred).

• Background in IoT solutions, industrial automation, instrumentation, or connected products (preferred).

• Experience leading DevOps, platform engineering, architecture, or developer productivity efforts (preferred).

• Proven track record in implementing organizational change management initiatives within technology teams (preferred).

• Familiarity with water quality, environmental monitoring, laboratory, utility, compliance, or industrial technology sectors (preferred).

• Understanding of AI governance, security, privacy, and compliant AI development practices (preferred).
