AI Prototyping Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Dakota, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Transform early-stage business ideas and loosely defined concepts into functional prototypes by utilizing AI-driven development tools and rapid experimentation.

• Collaborate with business users, AI prototypers, and developers to clarify goals, convert requirements into practical solutions, and assess when a prototype has adequately validated a concept.

• Develop and enhance AI-enabled features, including prompt design, agent workflows, API integrations, and methods for evaluating the quality and reliability of AI-generated outputs.

• Prepare successful prototypes for seamless handoff to the development team by employing clear structure, version control, and thorough documentation.

• Implement robust data, privacy, and security practices throughout the prototyping phase, ensuring solutions can transition properly to live firm data and production environments.

• Utilize AI tools as a central component of the prototyping and development process while independently reviewing, testing, and validating the generated outputs.

• Assess prototypes critically, identifying limitations, edge cases, and risks, and deciding whether to refine, hand off, or discontinue them.

• Remain updated on the latest AI development tools and techniques, applying new capabilities to enhance speed, quality, or business value.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, data science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

• Proven ability to take an idea from concept to a functional, usable prototype through coursework, internships, hackathons, side projects, or professional experience.

• Strong proficiency in using current AI development tools to create and refine effective solutions, coupled with the judgment to identify when AI-generated outputs are incomplete, inaccurate, or unreliable.

• Familiarity with version control, APIs, integrations, hosting, and deployment concepts necessary for advancing a prototype toward a deployable solution.

• Fundamental software development skills; experience with TypeScript, React, Python, or similar technologies is preferred but not mandatory at an advanced level.

• High level of initiative and comfort navigating ambiguity, evolving requirements, unfamiliar tools, and challenges without a predefined playbook.

• Strong judgment and practical problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to balance speed with quality and recognize when a prototype has fulfilled its intended purpose.

• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating between business needs and development requirements.

• Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment, learn quickly, and move on from prototypes that fail to demonstrate sufficient value.

• A portfolio or examples of completed projects that showcase the ability to build and deliver functional solutions is strongly preferred.
