AI-Native Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Write high-quality production code daily across the entire stack, encompassing backend, front-end, and the supporting infrastructure.

• Take charge of features and workstreams from design to deployment, delivering functional software in shippable increments.

• Participate in technical design and architecture discussions, providing well-reasoned contributions and a practical viewpoint.

• Conduct technical spikes and proofs-of-concept to investigate approaches and mitigate uncertainty prior to committing to a direction.

• Manage your technical debt responsibly, ensuring the codebase remains in a state you take pride in.

• Actively engage in the decomposition of shared services into team-owned components, tackling defined pieces of work and delivering them thoughtfully.

• Aid the transition to CI/CD by contributing to pipeline efforts, writing automated tests, and adopting trunk-based development as the default methodology.

• Design with observability in mind from the outset, including instrumentation, logging, and monitoring to allow your team to understand their systems in production.

• Contribute to enhancing the team's DevOps capabilities by taking operational responsibility for the systems you create.

• Write clean, testable, and secure code, consistently maintaining that standard regardless of convenience.

• Practice test-driven development and foster a culture where effective testing is standard, utilizing AI to generate scaffolding and explore edge cases within that process.

• Actively participate in code reviews, providing and receiving feedback that elevates the quality of work and raises the team's overall standard.

• Implement secure coding practices routinely: dependency management, threat awareness, and security testing.

• Integrate AI into your engineering process, using it as a fundamental part of problem-solving, code generation, and solution testing.

• Contribute to AI-enhanced workflows that boost the team's delivery capabilities in areas such as automation, testing, code generation, or observability.

• Engage proactively with the team's AI agents and tools, assisting in their refinement and improvement as your understanding deepens.

• Maintain a critical perspective on AI-generated outputs, ensuring quality and upholding the standards you apply to all shipped products.

• Collaborate closely with your Tech Lead and teammates through pairing, mob programming, and collective problem-solving.

• Mentor less experienced engineers where possible, sharing insights through code reviews, pairing, and daily interactions.

• Participate in planning, refinement, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives as an engaged and thoughtful team member.

• Take an active interest in your personal development, staying updated on the technologies and practices the team employs and bringing fresh ideas to the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience as a software engineer with a demonstrated ability to deliver complex features on production systems.

• Strong full-stack capabilities across both backend and front-end development, with experience in databases and cloud infrastructure.

• Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

• Solid understanding of security fundamentals: secure coding, dependency management, and awareness of common vulnerabilities.

• Experience working on evolving systems, including refactoring and enhancing existing codebases.

• Proven experience utilizing AI as an integral part of your engineering workflow, beyond merely being a code completion tool.

• Comfortable critically evaluating AI-generated outputs, knowing how to verify, refine, and take responsibility for what is shipped.
