This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +16 more states.
• Independently manage daily transactional accounting tasks.
• Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting and procedural standards.
• Collaborate with accounting personnel and department leaders to maintain the chart of accounts and assign account codes to source documents and journals.
• Establish and maintain vendor accounts, gather tax forms, and confirm accurate ACH setups.
• Negotiate net terms with contracts, oversee requests for new payee packets, and organize payee and vendor documentation.
• Assist in the development, implementation, modification, and documentation of recordkeeping and accounting systems using modern technology.
• Process weekly expense payments, solicit staff approvals, and reconcile purchase expenses.
• Support the general ledger by conducting monthly reviews and reconciliations of expense accounts and sub-ledgers.
• Keep up-to-date with regulatory requirements regarding annual tax filings, including 1098 and 1099 forms.
• Oversee or assist with the monthly reconciliation of credit card transactions and expenses.
• Address outstanding reconciliation issues with team members.
• Ensure compliance when processing foreign transactions and maintain proper financial statement presentation and vendor payments.
• Manage unclaimed property processes through external reporting.
• Analyze and suggest modifications regarding authorized signatures.
• Assist with annual audits by collecting necessary information, materials, and financial reports.
• Contribute to and prepare information for special reporting projects as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts payable/receiving, OR an associate’s degree in the same fields with at least 6 years of progressive accounts payable/receiving experience.
• Strong technical skills in using Unanet, Costpoint, or another Deltek product.
• Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), and the preparation of financial statements.
• Ability to work independently, utilizing knowledge to analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from diverse facts or circumstances.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Advanced skills in creating and maintaining spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Preferred experience in professional accounting within a federal government contracting environment.
• Fundamental understanding of Defense Contract Audit Agency compliance, including accounting practices and timekeeping regulations, is preferred or required for federal contracting.
• Experience with foreign currency transactions is preferred.
• Minimal overnight travel, limited to no more than 5%.
• Exempt status.
