1st Officer – Polar Navigation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Ensure safe navigation by overseeing watch duties, monitoring bridge/navigation equipment, and guaranteeing the safe operation of vessels both in port and at sea.

• Develop and oversee voyage plans, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, MARPOL, and local regulations.

• Keep navigational charts, publications, equipment logs, and merchant flags current and in line with the latest compliance requirements.

• Manage all port-related information and documentation, including port questionnaires, traffic reports, tidal/current data, and technical itineraries for voyages.

• Enhance vessel safety, security, and regulatory adherence by executing emergency responsibilities, monitoring communication systems such as GMDSS tests, and maintaining essential documentation like radio logs.

• Become a part of the Columbia Shipmanagement Cruise fleet as a 1st Officer with a focus on polar navigation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid Certificate of Competency (STCW Reg II/2) with verification.

• Current STCW certifications necessary for the role.

• Strong understanding of the ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other maritime regulations.

• Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and crisis management abilities.

• Proficient in English at an advanced level.

• Commitment to safety culture and mindset.

• Experience working in a multicultural environment.

• Significant experience in a similar rank aboard cruise ships.

• Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Polar Waters.

• Experience navigating in ice and polar waters.
