This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Directly report to the Claims Manager.
• Supervise the overall output of a claims team that includes Claims Specialists and Claims Assistants.
• Provide coaching, counseling, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
• Monitor work performance to ensure compliance with company standards and Labor Code regulations.
• Conduct timely performance evaluations for all personnel within the designated unit.
• Have monetary approval authority up to the assigned limit.
• Maintain selected files on personal diary, including those over $50,000, subrogation files, delayed or denied benefit files, SIU files, and files with unresolved coverage issues.
• Supply clients with requested information, reports, records, logs, and other materials.
• Ensure claims are processed in accordance with applicable statutes and company policies.
• Address personnel matters and keep the Claims Manager updated about any corrective actions taken.
• Identify and nurture at least one individual to serve as a supervisor backup.
• Conduct quarterly audits of 10% of each Claims Specialist's open inventory.
• Recognize opportunities to enhance claims management processes and outcomes.
• Foster teamwork and collaboration between claims staff and other departments.
• Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the Claims Manager.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of five years of progressive technical claims experience.
• High level of judgment and discretion.
• Capability to provide adequate guidance on complex claim cases.
• Proficient in negotiating settlements effectively.
• Working knowledge of the Labor Code of California as it applies to workers' compensation claims and the legal requirements for handling them.
• Project management skills, including the ability to develop project plans, coordinate projects, communicate changes and progress, and complete projects within time and budget constraints.
• Change management skills, including the development of implementation plans, effective communication of changes, commitment building, and transition monitoring.
• Leadership and people management skills, including the ability to motivate staff, provide constructive feedback, develop subordinate skills, and enhance supervisory processes.
• Capability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
