WMS Consultant – Design, Techno-Functional Lead

📋 Description

• Lead and facilitate discovery, requirements validation, and solution design activities for Blue Yonder WMS projects.

• Organize workshops that address inbound logistics, inventory management, outbound processes, returns, replenishment, value-added services, kitting, reporting, integrations, data management, automation, and warehouse operations.

• Evaluate current warehouse operations and convert business requirements into scalable future-state processes and system functionalities.

• Review WMS templates, configurations, process flows, and accompanying documentation.

• Assess standard Blue Yonder capabilities against business and operational needs.

• Identify functional discrepancies, design risks, dependencies, assumptions, constraints, and further clarification needs.

• Create, review, or validate Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Specifications Documents (FSDs), functional specs, process flows, decision logs, configuration workbooks, and design artifacts.

• Ensure traceability between approved business requirements and suggested functional solutions.

• Offer techno-functional guidance on WMS configurations, integrations, data management, reporting, material handling equipment, automation, and related enterprise systems.

• Collaborate with integration, architecture, development, testing, product, and operational teams.

• Assess enhancement or customization requests and document business requirements, impacts, outcomes, and rationale.

• Assist in prioritizing solution gaps based on business value, operational impact, scalability, standardization, cost, and implementation risks.

• Review implementation plans, estimates, assumptions, resource needs, dependencies, and sequencing.

• Support design reviews, stakeholder walkthroughs, governance meetings, and executive presentations.

• Maintain documentation of decisions, actions, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and unresolved issues.

• Advise stakeholders on best practices in warehouse management and industry benchmarks.

• Identify possibilities for AI-assisted configurations, workflow automation, and expedited WMS deployment.

• Create training materials, facilitator guides, user manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), job aids, and knowledge-transfer documentation.

• Conduct train-the-trainer, super-user, end-user, and support-team training through virtual or in-person sessions.

• Facilitate training readiness planning and align training materials with approved solution designs and operational procedures.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to functional consultants, business analysts, developers, trainers, and delivery team members.

• Report to the Co-Founder, COO & SVP of Enterprise Systems.

• Travel up to 50% depending on engagement requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in WMS consulting or implementation, with significant hands-on expertise in Blue Yonder WMS.

• Familiarity with recent Blue Yonder WMS cloud releases, ideally from 2023 or later.

• Experience serving as Design Lead, Solution Lead, Functional Lead, or Techno-Functional Lead on enterprise WMS initiatives.

• Proven experience in supporting multiple end-to-end WMS implementations, upgrades, migrations, rollouts, or template development projects.

• Strong understanding of warehouse processes, such as receiving, putaway, inventory management, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, returns, value-added services, and kitting.

• Demonstrated capability to lead design workshops and transform complex operational requirements into functional solution designs.

• Extensive experience in developing or reviewing BRDs, FSDs, functional specifications, process flows, configuration workbooks, test scenarios, and solution design documentation.

• Ability to evaluate requirements against standard Blue Yonder functionality and differentiate between configuration needs and product gaps or custom development requirements.

• Understanding of WMS integrations with ERP, OMS, TMS, carrier systems, labor management, reporting, automation, robotics, conveyor systems, and material handling systems.

• Proficient knowledge of APIs, interface patterns, data mapping, batch processing, reporting, and system dependencies.

• Experience with SQL or other database querying tools for analysis, validation, and troubleshooting purposes.

• Background in high-volume, multi-client, multi-site, or highly automated warehouse environments.

• Experience in developing WMS training materials and delivering instructor-led or virtual training sessions.

• Ability to translate complex system functionalities into clear and practical instructions.

• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, facilitation, documentation, training, and presentation skills.

• Proficient communication skills with warehouse operators, business leaders, technical teams, software vendors, and executive stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality results within tight project timelines.

• Willingness to travel as required by engagement demands.

• Preferred: Blue Yonder WMS certification or equivalent advanced platform experience.

• Preferred: Experience with cloud-based Blue Yonder WMS implementations, upgrades, or migrations.

• Preferred: Development of reusable WMS templates or multi-site deployment initiatives.

• Preferred: Experience in 3PL, retail, e-commerce, distribution, or omnichannel fulfillment.

• Preferred: Familiarity with cloud architecture and enterprise integration environments.

• Preferred: Knowledge of AI-assisted configurations, intelligent automation, or emerging warehouse technology capabilities.

• Preferred: Experience in a client-facing consulting environment.
