Windows, SQL Server Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Transition SQL Server workloads from Azure VMs to Amazon EC2 and RDS, selecting and justifying the suitable target for each workload.

• Reconstruct Always On Availability Groups and replicate a tailored scheduled backup-restore procedure utilized to populate a BI server.

• Redirect full, differential, and transaction log backups from Azure Blob Storage to Amazon S3.

• Validate end-to-end recovery processes.

• Migrate Active Directory Domain Services operating on Azure VMs, including the synchronization of Okta and Entra ID.

• Oversee SQL Server license portability under Software Assurance.

• Assist with AWS Optimization and Licensing Assessment reviews.

• Implement cutovers adhering to zero-data-loss standards within a PCI-scoped, regulated setting.

• Modernize a substantial Microsoft estate for a regulated financial services client, encompassing 35 SQL Server VMs, a 77 TB primary data warehouse, over 600 stored procedures, two Always On Availability Groups, and a customized backup-restore refresh procedure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, hands-on experience with production SQL Server, including Always On Availability Groups, backup and recovery, and performance optimization.

• Proficient in Windows Server administration across various versions, incorporating failover clustering.

• Expertise in designing and migrating Active Directory Domain Services, including Group Policy, DNS, and hybrid identity with Entra ID.

• Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, VPC, S3, and IAM.

• AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification or higher, or a strong commitment to achieving certification within the first six months.

• Production-level PowerShell automation skills.

• Proven track record of migrating actual database workloads across platforms, including addressing operational implications.

• Proficient written and verbal English skills for daily interactions with an international, English-speaking team.

• Desirable: Experience with AWS DMS, Azure SQL Database, SQL Server on Linux, T-SQL development, SSRS, Terraform, VMware, financial services / PCI-DSS, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and AWS Database Specialty certification.
