VP of Procurement – Commodities

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +16 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead the Commodities division and oversee the procure-to-pay process.

• Take ownership of sourcing, commodity risk management, and ensuring a reliable supply of both physical and financial raw materials across corporate facilities.

• Manage spending on commodities and ingredients, while governing SAP contracting, Master Data, and SOX-compliant contract entries.

• Hedge against commodity price fluctuations through market exchanges.

• Lead and mentor category and SAP contracting managers.

• Develop sourcing and coverage strategies that support consistent supply, productivity, and growth.

• Direct strategic sourcing across all commodity categories and approve the related strategies.

• Act as the commodity subject-matter expert for the Procurement Leadership Team and senior stakeholders.

• Manage the commodity risk management program and execute hedging through futures, options, index-based, and forward physical contracts.

• Present market conditions, coverage positions, and financial impact assessments to the Commodity Risk Subcommittee and during SLT Dashboard reviews.

• Direct market intelligence efforts concerning agricultural commodities and feedstocks.

• Oversee supplier negotiations, strategic agreements, RFPs, alternative supplier development, specification/formula optimization, and supplier relationship management.

• Ensure a continuous supply of raw materials, business continuity, and effective contingency planning.

• Supervise the qualification and development of new suppliers.

• Own commodity cost assumptions for annual planning and collaborate with the Finance team.

• Set performance goals for the division and report on savings, coverage, and service outcomes.

• Provide leadership for Direct P2P, ensuring accurate SAP contract entries, maintaining Master Data integrity, and adhering to SOX-compliant controls.

• Collaborate with plant inventory and fulfillment teams to guarantee that materials are ordered, received, and paid for accurately and promptly.

• Support and sponsor SAP ERP/Digital integration initiatives.

• Recruit, develop, and manage a team of five category and SAP contracting managers.

• Lead or support cross-functional special projects for the Procurement Leadership Team.

• Adhere to company policies and perform other essential duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of ten to fifteen years of progressive procurement experience, particularly in direct materials and commodity procurement.

• Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to build, lead, and develop a team of category managers or sourcing professionals.

• Extensive knowledge in commodity risk management and price hedging, including the use of futures, options, and index-based or forward physical contracts.

• A successful history of developing and implementing category strategies within agricultural and/or energy commodities.

• Experience managing significant supplier relationships and leading complex negotiations.

• Demonstrated ability to achieve savings, reduce total-cost-of-ownership, and create value.

• Experience in overseeing commodity cost assumptions and inflation/deflation forecasts within an annual operational and financial planning cycle.

• Familiarity with direct Procure-to-Pay operations and governance, including SAP contracting, Master Data, and SOX-compliant controls.

• Experience in consumer packaged goods; experience in the food and beverage or bakery sector is strongly preferred.

• Ability to influence executive leaders and cross-functional partners across Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, Quality, R&D, and Brand.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• An advanced degree is preferred.
