VP of Final Mile Operations

📋 Description

• Deliver strategic leadership and operational management for warehouse, transportation, and delivery functions throughout the network.

• Take ownership of network service performance metrics, such as on-time delivery, completion rates, damage-free delivery, and customer satisfaction.

• Develop and uphold service, quality, and performance standards across all markets.

• Facilitate operational reviews and performance management initiatives.

• Identify and address service failures, customer complaints, claims, and performance challenges.

• Minimize damages, claims, delivery exceptions, and customer escalations.

• Oversee KPI reporting, trend analysis, and operational transparency.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on operational controls, risk management, and compliance with regulatory, client, and company requirements.

• Manage operating profit and loss, encompassing revenue, direct costs, contribution margin, and annual budget performance.

• Collaborate with Finance on forecasting, budgeting, financial performance management, and profitability analysis.

• Promote profitable growth and tackle performance deficiencies.

• Ensure adequate delivery capacity across markets, including planning for peak seasons and contingency coverage.

• Work with Fleet Support Services on contractor recruitment, onboarding, compliance, settlements, compensation, incentives, retention, and engagement.

• Spearhead the continuous improvement strategy and foster a culture of operational excellence.

• Assess, implement, and promote the use of operational tools, systems, and technologies.

• Act as the senior operational point of contact and escalation authority for essential customer relationships.

• Conduct client business reviews and lead strategic operational discussions.

• Support customer retention, new implementations, operational expansions, and growth initiatives.

• Cultivate and develop high-performing leaders and teams.

• Drive succession planning, talent development, employee engagement, and change leadership strategies.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent operational leadership experience.

• Over ten years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or related operational settings.

• Proven experience with multi-site operations, geographically distributed teams, and P&L accountability.

• Required experience leading operations supported by independent contractor delivery networks.

• Strong preference for candidates with final mile or home delivery experience.

• Strong preference for experience in big-and-bulky delivery environments.

• Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement certification is preferred.

• Preferred experience in launching new markets, facilities, major customer programs, or operations supporting national retailer scorecard initiatives.

• Demonstrated operational leadership in complex, geographically dispersed environments.

• Proven financial acumen and comprehension of operational performance drivers.

• Capability to leverage KPIs and data to achieve business outcomes.

• Familiarity with transportation, warehouse, routing, dispatch, and performance management technologies.

• Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives.

• Ability to develop high-performing leaders and teams.

• Understanding of contractor network operations and compliance requirements.

• Strong customer focus and relationship management abilities.

• Capability to lead change and foster cross-functional partnerships.

• Commitment to safety, quality, service, and profitability.

• Willingness to travel regularly as necessary to support field operations.

• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
