Virtualization and Storage Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, upgrade, and apply patches to VMware ESXi and vCenter / vSphere.

• Establish and manage High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), vMotion, and Storage vMotion clusters.

• Oversee VMFS and NFS datastores, datastore clusters / Storage DRS, provisioning, and snapshots.

• Design and sustain virtual networking utilizing vSwitches, Distributed Switches, port groups, and VLANs.

• Handle the complete VM lifecycle, which includes templates, cloning, P2V/V2V migrations, and performance troubleshooting.

• Allocate storage for ESXi by creating LUNs/volumes, mapping hosts, zoning/masking, and presenting VMware datastores.

• Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring, and latency troubleshooting between ESXi and storage arrays.

• Deploy and manage AWS EC2 instances, encompassing instance types, AMIs, key pairs, EBS volumes, and snapshots.

• Migrate or import workloads from VMware to AWS utilizing AWS Application Migration Service and VM Import/Export.

• Document infrastructure thoroughly enough for others to manage.

• Take responsibility for production VMware and storage environments.

• Ensure system performance, stability, and availability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of direct experience with ESXi and vCenter / vSphere in a production setting.

• Strong foundational skills in VMware.

• Enterprise storage presented to VMware (mandatory).

• Practical experience with IBM Storage (FlashSystem / Storwize / SVC), Dell Compellent, EMC VNXe, or similar enterprise arrays.

• Knowledge of Fibre Channel and iSCSI, preferably NFS as well, including multipathing (PSP / Round Robin) on ESXi.

• Proficiency in AWS EC2 (required, working level).

• Basic understanding of AWS networking: VPC, subnets, security groups, Elastic IPs.

• Basic awareness of IAM and cost-effective sizing.

• Capability to work independently from design through to deployment and troubleshooting.

• Clear skills in technical documentation.

• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Preferred: VMware VCP-DCV certification.

• Preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or SysOps Administrator certification.

• Preferred: IBM Storage certifications.

• Preferred: Experience with array-side snapshots and replication, VAAI.

• Preferred: Familiarity with VMware backup tools such as Veeam or Commvault.

• Preferred: Knowledge of PowerCLI, PowerShell, AWS CLI.

• Preferred: Experience in Windows Server and Linux administration.

• Preferred: Experience with hybrid setups (on-prem VMware + AWS) or VMware Cloud on AWS.

• Candidates must reside in Romania.
