UI/UX Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Utilize Human Centered Design principles to create and improve user-focused applications.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, testers, and stakeholders to convert business and technical requirements into UI/UX solutions.

• Formulate research-oriented questions and utilize indirect user insights when direct access to users is restricted.

• Design wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma.

• Act as a UI/UX accessibility subject-matter expert for cross-functional teams.

• Offer guidance on accessible design practices and ensure compliance with Section 508.

• Embed accessibility and compliance considerations throughout the design process prior to production release.

• Review accessibility findings and provide actionable recommendations for addressing Section 508 issues.

• Assist with accessibility testing, audits, and remediation initiatives.

• Suggest design solutions and validate corrected implementations.

• Integrate feedback into iterative design enhancements within an Agile delivery framework.

• Contribute to team goals and undertake additional responsibilities as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience as a UI/UX Designer with a portfolio showcasing accessible web or application design projects.

• Strong comprehension and practical application of Human Centered Design principles in complex, constraint-driven environments.

• Proven experience in designing accessible user interfaces and advising cross-functional teams on Section 508 compliance and remediation.

• Capability to translate accessibility and compliance requirements into actionable recommendations.

• Ability to collaborate with Business Analysts and stakeholders, translating research and user insights into effective design solutions.

• Proficient in Figma.

• Experience working in Agile development teams.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Prior government/federal experience.

• Experience supporting VA, DHA, HHS, or other federal/government initiatives.

• Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines, USWDS, and federal accessibility standards and expectations.

• Experience in accessibility testing, audits, and remediation.

• Experience contributing to or working within a design system, including UI patterns, components, and documentation.

• Familiarity with Miro, Mural, JIRA, and Confluence.

• Ability to obtain a government clearance.

• Candidates must reside within the continental US.

• Selected candidates will need to complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check.
