Traveling Transformer Assembly Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Montana, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Execute field assembly of large power transformers, with capacities ranging from approximately 15 MVA to 200 MVA.

• Assist in the installation and assembly of transformer components and accessories.

• Install and engage with transformer radiators and related components.

• Aid in the handling and circulation of transformer oil.

• Support the installation, connections, and field preparation of transformer components.

• Utilize a working knowledge of electrical theory during assembly and service tasks for transformers.

• Contribute to electrical and transformer testing activities as dictated by project needs.

• Identify and relay potential issues regarding transformer assembly, components, or operations to project supervision.

• Adhere to established project protocols, safety standards, and customer specifications.

• Collaborate closely with client field leadership and other technicians to ensure project completion is safe and timely.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in line with field and safety requirements.

• Assist with mobilization, demobilization, and travel between project sites as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience in power transformer assembly, installation, maintenance, or field service.

• Background in large power transformer assembly is essential.

• Familiarity with transformers in the 15 MVA–200 MVA range or similar equipment.

• Experience with the installation of transformer radiators and related components.

• Knowledge of transformer oil systems and oil circulation processes.

• Experience with electrical testing related to transformer installation or servicing.

• Understanding of fundamental electrical theory and electrical system concepts.

• Capability to read and adhere to technical procedures, drawings, manufacturer instructions, and project specifications.

• Ability to work safely around high-value electrical equipment within utility, industrial, or power infrastructure settings.

• Willingness to travel 100% of the time.

• Capacity to travel by air and/or ground transportation to project locations.

• Availability to work approximately 10-hour days as required.

• Willingness to work overnight shifts when necessary.

• Ability to remain on site for the entirety of an assignment.

• Flexibility to transition between projects as opportunities arise.

• OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

• Previous experience in the field assembling large power transformers is preferred.

• Familiarity with traveling between transformer, utility, substation, or power infrastructure projects is preferred.

• Ability to perform tasks with minimal day-to-day oversight is preferred.

• Broader experience in transformer testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, or commissioning is advantageous.
