Traveling Automotive Engineer – M/F

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Execute both on-site and remote tasks for dealerships, authorized repair facilities, and technical centers throughout Europe.

• Minimize vehicle downtime and alleviate case backlogs.

• Identify and address intricate technical issues, especially those related to electrical systems, electronics, and multiplexing.

• Evaluate individual and systemic failures and apply containment and corrective measures.

• Utilize manufacturer-specific tools to conduct guided diagnostics, execute software updates, reprogram, and configure systems.

• Analyze wiring diagrams, repair manuals, and technical bulletins to pinpoint root causes.

• Generate technical reports, incident summaries, and action plans.

• Present findings to engineering, quality, and after-sales teams.

• Assist in case management, escalations, and resolutions in accordance with KPIs and service standards.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams at repair sites.

• Deliver on-site training and knowledge transfer to technicians.

• Document recurring issues and lessons learned in knowledge bases.

• Adhere to safety regulations and manage costs effectively.

• Oversee tools, equipment, and mission logistics, alongside case tracking, time management, and prioritization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in the automotive industry, particularly in technical support, diagnostics, dealership workshops, field service, or manufacturer/importer technical assistance.

• Extensive field experience in resolving complex electrical and electronic faults, as well as vehicle operational challenges using manufacturer diagnostic tools.

• Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and provide support across various locations or markets.

• Familiarity with technical documentation, case reporting, and technician support/training.

• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary automotive systems, including ADAS, body electronics, CAN/LIN/FlexRay networks, and high-voltage systems where relevant.

• Proficient in diagnostic methodologies, such as fault-tree analysis, root-cause analysis, guided diagnostics, calibration, and software updates.

• Capability to read, comprehend, and apply wiring diagrams, repair procedures, and manufacturer technical documentation.

• Solid understanding of after-sales processes and relevant performance metrics.

• Exceptional written and spoken English skills.

• Expertise in manufacturer diagnostic tools and equipment, particularly wiTECH POD and DiagBOX VCI.

• Skills in ECU programming, coding, configuration, software updates, and secure gateway access.

• Advanced proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and measurement devices.

• Ability to interpret and troubleshoot wiring diagrams and network communications.

• Excellent technical writing capabilities.

• Comfortable using standard IT tools, remote support platforms, ticketing/case management software, and MS Office or equivalents.

• Capacity to work independently in the field and prioritize, manage cases, tools, and equipment effectively.
