Transmission Line Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a team of transmission line engineers, designers, and technical experts.

• Set performance expectations, assist in career development, conduct performance evaluations, and promote accountability, collaboration, and ongoing improvement.

• Oversee department staffing, recruitment, hiring, workload forecasting, and resource allocation.

• Ensure the safe, timely, and budget-compliant delivery of transmission line engineering projects that meet company quality standards and client expectations.

• Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance for intricate transmission line engineering projects.

• Act as a senior technical resource for both staff and clients.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and operational workflows.

• Manage departmental operational performance, which includes utilization, backlog management, staffing forecasts, revenue goals, profitability, and financial results.

• Collaborate with project managers and business leaders to assess project performance, manage risks, resolve resource limitations, and address schedule, budget, and quality issues.

• Foster relationships with utility clients, contractors, and industry partners.

• Assist in project pursuits, proposal development, scope definition, contract negotiations, and initiatives aimed at client satisfaction.

• Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth, service expansion, and market development.

• Advocate for safety, quality, compliance, and professional development programs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or a related field).

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

• 12+ years of experience in an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting environment.

• 10+ years of experience in transmission line engineering (design, analysis, modeling, or similar).

• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, project portfolios, resource planning, and financial performance.

• Project management experience with transmission projects ranging from 4kV to 500kV.

• Familiarity with WBS, critical path, EV, SOV, milestone, and change management methodologies.

• Proficient in PLS‑CADD and other transmission line engineering software tools and principles.

• Willingness to travel for client presentations, field visits, industry conferences, and project reviews.

• Experience coordinating with stakeholders on permitting, environmental, ROW, planning, procurement, geotechnical, and constructability aspects.

• Experience in recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.

• Background in business development and client relationship management.

• Proficient in PLS-POLE, L-PILE, and/or MFAD.

• Working knowledge of NERC, FERC, NESC, ASCE, IEEE, ANSI, FAC-008, and FERC Order 881.

• Experience in establishing engineering standards, QA/QC programs, and initiatives for continuous improvement.

• Understanding of consulting business operations, utilization management, revenue forecasting, and departmental financial performance.

• Experience in line routing, structure spotting, structural analysis and design, foundation design, hardware selection, conductor and shield wire selection, material specifications, and construction support.

• Experience in developing and drafting client proposals, including T&M and fixed fee scopes of work, risk registers, schedules, and client onboarding requirements.
