Engineering Manager, Algorithms Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Build and manage a high-performing team focused on pricing algorithms, forecasting, and data pipelines.

• Take ownership of the delivery, quality, and operational health of pricing operations.

• Foster the growth of team members through one-on-ones, feedback, performance evaluations, and career development initiatives.

• Recruit, onboard, and nurture engineers.

• Collaborate with Product, challenge strategic direction, and advocate for changes in the team's output.

• Convert business objectives into engineering plans that feature measurable outcomes and achievable timelines.

• Utilize backtesting, model quality assessments, and before-and-after signals to inform prioritization decisions.

• Maintain a balance between delivery speed and technical sustainability, managing debt, scalability, and reliability.

• Provide technical oversight through design and code reviews.

• Serve as a buffer for the team against external pressures.

• Enhance engineering processes and practices.

• Drive technical advancements across the Product and Engineering departments.

• Collaborate closely with a Product Manager and report to the Senior Engineering Manager.

• Lead a team of four engineers, with the potential future inclusion of an Associate Engineering Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience, with several years spent directly managing engineers, including performance management.

• Strong background in software engineering with experience in building and maintaining production systems.

• Ideally, have experience in backend development and data-intensive or algorithmic domains.

• Experience in developing or managing other managers is a plus.

• Possess a strong product mindset and confidence in challenging Product strategies.

• Technically credible with a willingness to be hands-on when necessary.

• Proficient in Python/Django, Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster.

• Familiarity with forecasting, modeling, or data engineering is a significant advantage.

• Solid understanding of system design, architecture, and engineering best practices.

• Exceptional communication and leadership capabilities.

• Embrace a servant-leadership approach.

• Fluent in English.
