Transmission Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage various transmission projects from the planning stage through construction and commissioning.

• Provide technical guidance, project management, and client interaction for electric utility transmission initiatives.

• Plan, analyze, design, and supervise the construction of transmission solutions.

• Conduct quality assurance and quality control evaluations throughout the project delivery process.

• Ensure timely project completion while adhering to budgetary constraints and compliance with technical, regulatory, and safety standards.

• Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, and engineering cost estimates.

• Stay updated with relevant codes, standards, industry practices, and emerging technologies.

• Perform comprehensive planning studies and system assessments related to transmission capacity, reliability, and system performance.

• Create, review, and approve complete transmission designs, including PE-sealed construction drawings and bid packages.

• Prepare specifications for equipment, materials, and construction requirements.

• Exhibit proficiency with industry-standard software for transmission, protection, and control system design, planning, modeling, and analysis.

• Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance, and engineering documentation.

• Support geotechnical, structural, and civil engineering tasks related to transmission lines.

• Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, utility personnel, and internal teams.

• Act as a technical advisor to utility clients.

• Provide field engineering assistance during construction, commissioning, outage restoration, and emergency response.

• Aid clients with engineering inquiries, operational challenges, strategic planning, and regulatory reporting.

• Mentor, train, and develop engineers and technical staff.

• Cultivate a high-performing engineering team.

• Promote collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.

• Support initiatives in business development, recruiting, onboarding, and professional growth.

• Implement process improvements to boost engineering efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) from an ABET-accredited institution, preferably with a focus on Power Systems.

• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license.

• Capability to obtain licensure in other states through reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.

• At least 10 years of experience in electric utility transmission design and engineering.

• Minimum of 2 years of engineering leadership experience with direct supervisory responsibilities.

• Proven success collaborating with utility personnel, construction contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

• Strong knowledge of tower, pole, and underground transmission design, system analysis, structure support, transmission protection and controls, and utility construction methodologies.

• Comprehensive understanding of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and RUS requirements.

• Familiarity with OSHA regulations applicable to transmission and the electric utility sector.

• Broad knowledge of electric utility operations, including transmission, substations, distribution systems, protection and control systems, SCADA, AMI, and OMS platforms.

• Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork, including traversing uneven or rough terrain, visiting active construction sites, and working under varying weather conditions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, utility personnel, regulatory agencies, and internal team members.

• Strong problem-solving capabilities, sound engineering judgment, and meticulous attention to detail.

• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

• Authorized to work in the United States.

• Able to successfully pass background checks, driving record reviews, drug screening requirements, and client-specific screening processes as necessary.
