This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Analyze and assess intricate orders related to equity, options, mutual funds, GICs, fixed income, and foreign exchange for approval, modification, restriction, rejection, or escalation.
• Serve as a gatekeeper and the initial line of defense by balancing client service with operational, financial, regulatory, market, and reputational risks.
• Evaluate liquidity, trading volume, volatility, concentration, and price sensitivity on large or atypical orders.
• Execute complex margin and buying power calculations across multi-leg option strategies, concentrated positions, and leveraged accounts.
• Detect excessive leverage, margin shortfalls, under-equity situations, and declining account conditions; advise or implement restrictions.
• Reach out to clients concerning margin calls, cash debits, credit sellouts, loan conditions, FX risk, and account limitations.
• Oversee option lifecycle risks, including exercise and assignment notifications and expiry report evaluations.
• Investigate and manage corporate action risks, including reverse splits and reorganizations.
• Track and resolve order rejections, trade breaks, and transactions that are unfilled or incorrectly recorded.
• Monitor accounts for signs of fraud, wash trading, unauthorized trading, market manipulation indicators, and inappropriate trading activities.
• Adhere to CIRO requirements, internal policies, AML, privacy, and consumer protection duties.
• Identify control deficiencies, system flaws, and process vulnerabilities; assist in enhancing controls.
• Conduct root cause analyses on recurring exceptions, client-impacting incidents, and control failures.
• Act as a TMD subject matter expert on strategic platform, margin, order management, and risk-control initiatives.
• Define requirements, assess solutions, and perform user acceptance testing.
• Review and suggest updates to procedures, job aids, and control documentation.
• Collaborate with Credit, Risk, Margin Lending, Equity Desk, Compliance, Technology, InvestorLine frontline, and support teams.
• Mentor new hires and coach team members on challenging orders.
• Assist Audit, Compliance, Legal, and Operational Risk assessments with transaction evidence and documented analysis.
• Accurately document decisions, calculations, client communications, and actions taken.
• Use discretion when escalating issues to management, Credit, Compliance, or trading desks.
• Independently handle complex, time-sensitive, and non-routine tasks in a high-volume setting.
• Protect sensitive information pertaining to the Bank, customers, transactions, and employees.
• Implement BMO’s Risk Management Framework, Risk Culture, and approved Risk Appetite.
• Typically require 4–6 years of relevant experience.
• Post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completion of the CSC, CPH and DFOL, or CIRO-administered CIRE and Derivatives examinations.
• At least one year of relevant experience gained after achieving these qualifications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of BMO InvestorLine products, the order and trade lifecycle, brokerage operations, and related trading systems.
• Advanced understanding of equities, options and multi-leg strategies, fixed income, margin and buying power calculations, concentration risk, and credit exposure.
• Strong grasp of Canadian securities regulation, CIRO requirements, AML, privacy, internal controls, and operational risk principles.
• Ability to manage substantial volumes of work and data, prioritize competing risks, and maintain accuracy under time-sensitive conditions.
• Proficient with proprietary trading applications, MS Office, and macros.
