Telecom Cable Plant Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and implement telecommunications systems that fulfill enterprise needs.

• Create and engineer cable plant enhancements across the USAP enterprise.

• Design and document both ISP and OSP configurations, along with associated equipment, within the USAP enterprise.

• Oversee the Cable Management System for the USAP: Patch Manager.

• Identify and resolve issues with existing telecommunications systems.

• Conduct surveys of all ISP and OSP cables for integration into the Cable Management System.

• Enter cable and equipment information into the enterprise's Cable Management System.

• Coordinate the updates of telecommunications infrastructure records stemming from projects and ongoing operations.

• Provide training on the Cable Management System to authorized personnel and clients.

• Develop workflows for the Cable Management System.

• Create, maintain, and revise Standard Operating Procedures and documentation for the Cable Management System.

• Conduct data validation and regular quality assurance assessments.

• Stay updated with advancements in telecommunications technology and suggest upgrades.

• Prepare technical documentation related to telecommunications systems.

• Ensure that workspaces comply with ASC and USAP safety regulations.

• Uphold a safe workplace initiative and prioritize safety above all.

• Collaborate closely with the USAP telecommunications team to implement and sustain ISP and OSP enhancements.

• Be deployed to operational sites in Antarctica and logistics hubs in California, New Zealand, and Chile.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in the telecommunications sector.

• At least 2 years of experience in telecommunications design or engineering.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in data management.

• Proficient in Cable Management database systems, telecommunications wiring standards, and installation of telecommunications infrastructure.

• Strong understanding of logical and systematic troubleshooting methodologies.

• Excellent proficiency in computers and software utilized in contemporary telecommunications facilities.

• Familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment, such as OTDRs and copper cable testers.

• Knowledge of electronics equipment cabling and standard installation wiring practices.

• Capability to communicate technical concepts and relay technical information to diverse audiences.

• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and written/verbal communication abilities.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Experience with Patch Manager Cable Management Software is preferred.

• Familiarity with data validation techniques is preferred.

• US Citizenship is mandatory.

• Must secure a Public Trust security clearance prior to the start date.

• Must successfully undergo NSF-required physical and dental evaluations for deployment to Antarctica.

• Must keep the camera on during the interview; the interviewer will take a photo for identification purposes if an offer is extended.
