Technology Operations Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead significant technology and systems initiatives throughout the organization.

• Formulate and align long-term technology and operational objectives with the organization's goals and strategy.

• Create roadmaps, timelines, and change-management strategies for large-scale projects.

• Collaborate with directors and staff on fiscally sponsored projects to select and utilize technology platforms.

• Oversee technology to adapt to changing business requirements while staying informed about emerging tools and trends.

• Determine operational system requirements that support connectivity in a remote-first environment.

• Supervise technology contractors and support services.

• Manage Salesforce CRM/database design, maintenance, and management in collaboration with Grants Management and Development leadership.

• Enhance staff technological proficiency.

• Create cybersecurity policies, procedures, and solutions involving hardware and software.

• Promote data privacy compliance and develop business continuity/disaster recovery plans.

• Provide strategic technology advice to leadership regarding operational risks and resource allocation.

• Execute technology tasks essential for data protection in accordance with organizational policies.

• Supervise personnel managing the Sacramento satellite office, five additional leases, and co-working spaces.

• Facilitate staff retreats and other in-person engagements.

• Manage health and safety programs in conjunction with Human Resources.

• Oversee the technology and operations budget.

• Participate as a member of the organizational Leadership Team.

• Foster cross-organizational relationships to ensure technology and operational solutions address diverse team needs.

• Act as a liaison between technical/operational teams and non-technical staff and leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience leading and managing technology and/or operations teams, with at least 5 years in a director-level position or higher; experience in the nonprofit or mission-driven sector is preferred.

• Proven track record of successfully moving complex technology and systems projects from planning to implementation and adoption, including ERP, CRM/Salesforce, financial systems, or infrastructure migrations at organizations of similar size (50–200 staff) or larger.

• Experience in leading the creation and implementation of an organization-wide cybersecurity/data protection policy.

• Direct experience in managing security incidents, vendor risk assessments, and compliance with relevant data protection regulations.

• Practical experience in evaluating and implementing enterprise software platforms, including grants management systems or other CRMs; Salesforce experience is highly preferred.

• At least 3 years of experience preferred working with a fiscal sponsor organization or a comparable multi-entity structure.

• Experience in managing vendor relationships/contracts related to IT, real estate, or professional services, demonstrating successful negotiation outcomes.

• Experience in directly supervising staff and teams.

• Ability to address sensitive personnel or organizational issues.

• Experience presenting to or advising senior leadership/board-level audiences.

• Experience in a remote-first or hybrid organization, particularly during growth phases.
