This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Develop technical documentation such as installation guides, configuration instructions, troubleshooting resources, user manuals, man pages, and --help prompts.
• Engage in team ceremonies.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager, developers, and QA to create high-quality documentation.
• Utilize text, Markdown, images, and diagrams to enhance documentation for audiences with varying levels of expertise.
• Employ AI tools to draft, refine, format, and enhance content.
• Manage documentation versioning.
• Contribute to the overarching documentation strategy.
• Work with PostgreSQL and related components as part of a distributed open-source software development team.
• Represent Percona's perspective to technical customers.
• Produce comprehensive and clear documentation for Percona PostgreSQL products.
• Communicate and collaborate via Slack, Zoom, Jira, forums, and team rituals.
• Write documentation for new features, guides, bug fixes, and release notes.
• Participate in technical discussions and planning sessions.
• Draft blog posts and assist with upstream documentation.
• Research and learn about new technologies.
• Occasionally attend conferences or in-person meetups.
• Proficient in graduate-level written English and possess excellent verbal communication skills.
• Experience in documenting complex systems and creating user-oriented documentation.
• Over 3 years of experience as a technical writer.
• Capability to produce high-quality and precise documentation.
• Familiarity with markup languages, particularly Markdown.
• Experience in installing and configuring database server software on Linux.
• Knowledge of docs-as-code methodologies.
• Strongly recommended to have familiarity with Jenkins, Git, Markdown, HTML, and/or JavaScript.
• Experience using AI tools for documentation purposes.
• Comfortable navigating the Linux command line.
• Experience in distributed system development and/or database server development.
• Proficient with developer tools such as Git, GCC, and GDB.
• Ability to work independently within a globally distributed organization.
• Experience collaborating with open-source communities and colleagues through mailing lists, Slack, and similar platforms.
• Familiarity with collaboration and tracking tools like Jira and Notion.
• Proven success in a distributed work environment.
• Quick learner who is also a great team player.
• A background in development or DevOps is a differentiator.
• A history of contributing to PostgreSQL or other open-source projects is a differentiator.
• Active membership in the PostgreSQL community is a differentiator.
• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL internals is a differentiator.
• Working knowledge of database storage engines, at-rest encryption, and cloud orchestration is a differentiator.
• Ability to build and maintain automated documentation testing, CI/CD pipelines, and validation tools is a differentiator.
• Experience in conference speaking, technical blogging, and participating in public forums or mailing lists are differentiators.
