Technical Project Manager – MSP / IT Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of designated IT projects from the approved scope through planning, execution, testing, documentation, and final transfer.

• Convert scopes of work into comprehensive project plans detailing tasks, responsible parties, dependencies, milestones, estimated efforts, and completion criteria.

• Oversee multiple simultaneous projects across various client environments.

• Direct infrastructure projects, including server installations and upgrades, Active Directory migrations, Microsoft 365 implementations, Azure initiatives, virtualization projects, network upgrades, firewall deployments, workstation rollouts, and disaster recovery efforts.

• Coordinate with technicians, engineers, vendors, client contacts, and internal stakeholders throughout each project.

• Facilitate project kickoffs, technical working sessions, status meetings, and completion reviews.

• Verify technical prerequisites, including equipment, licensing, backups, access, documentation, maintenance windows, and rollback plans.

• Monitor project scope, schedules, budgeted efforts, dependencies, risks, and resource needs.

• Proactively identify potential issues and escalate technical or project-related obstacles before they affect delivery.

• Provide direct technical implementation and troubleshooting as needed.

• Conduct structured testing and quality assurance prior to finalizing projects.

• Maintain precise technical and project documentation, including configurations, diagrams, credentials, decisions, changes, and test outcomes.

• Ensure that completed projects are smoothly transitioned to ongoing support teams.

• Engage in post-project reviews and contribute to enhancing project delivery processes.

• Travel to Southern California/Los Angeles County for initial training and approximately 1–2 company visits annually.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience working with a Managed Service Provider (MSP).

• Extensive experience leading multiple concurrent IT infrastructure projects across diverse client environments.

• Strong hands-on experience in Windows Server administration, including server deployment and configuration.

• Proficient in Active Directory and Group Policy, including domain controller deployment and domain administration.

• Strong administration skills in Microsoft Azure.

• Solid networking experience, including routers, switches, VLANs, and firewalls.

• Experience in configuring and deploying firewalls.

• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V and/or VMware ESXi.

• Experience with Microsoft 365 environments and migrations.

• Ability to independently transform an approved scope of work into a structured, actionable project plan.

• Strong grasp of project scheduling, resource coordination, risk management, change control, testing, documentation, and operational handoff.

• Capability to coordinate technical resources without necessarily holding direct supervisory authority.

• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions during project execution.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Helpful but not mandatory: Experience with HaloPSA, Kaseya, NinjaOne, Hudu, or IT Glue.

• Willingness and capability to travel to Southern California/Los Angeles County for initial training and approximately 1–2 times per year thereafter.
