Tech Lead Manager, Student Experience

📋 Description

• Act as the primary technical and personnel leader for the team that interacts with students.

• Take responsibility for the professional development, career advancement, and performance evaluation of direct reports.

• Drive the team's culture, technical strategy, and project execution.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager to enhance team processes for quicker delivery and accelerated learning.

• Remain actively involved in the codebase by handling inbound technical tasks, bug fixes, compliance work, technical debt, and minor features.

• Manage technical debt within the defined scope and provide technical expertise across projects.

• Question technical methodologies and serve as the team's primary technical representative.

• Demonstrate effective AI-supported development techniques for the team.

• Monitor team well-being and take appropriate actions.

• Cultivate relationships with direct reports and stay informed about ongoing projects.

• Implement 1:1 meetings, performance discussions, and career development strategies.

• Make technical decisions and set architectural direction.

• Identify and resolve technical or product-design issues before they escalate into delivery challenges.

• Facilitate process improvements and experiments in collaboration with Product.

• Be recognized as a technical authority in the team's area of expertise.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, current hands-on experience in software engineering; regular coding and code review are essential.

• Previous experience in managing both technical direction and team members.

• Willingness to oversee both technical leadership and people management concurrently.

• Capability to independently represent the engineering division without a separate Tech Lead.

• Familiarity with, or strong potential for, AI-assisted development tools and processes.

• Proven history of making practical technical trade-offs under tight delivery timelines.

• Experience with, or willingness to adapt, agile/Scrum-based team methodologies.

• Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

• Must reside in one of the states where Niche currently employs staff.
