Tech Lead – Application Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Offer technical leadership and architectural direction for application engineering projects.

• Evaluate pull requests and set standards for code quality, maintainability, and engineering coherence.

• Mentor Senior Developers and assist in technical decision-making during the implementation phase.

• Design and implement containerized applications and RESTful services.

• Incorporate intricate business logic, AI functionalities, and outputs from data-intensive backend systems into existing applications.

• Operate across Python backend services and contemporary React/TypeScript applications.

• Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams regarding AWS infrastructure and application integration.

• Engage with S3-backed data lakes, Athena, and EKS/Kubernetes environments.

• Comprehend how orchestrated data pipelines support application services and work with responsible teams.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools while promoting responsible engineering practices for AI-generated code.

• Identify and address architectural shortcuts that may adversely affect scalability or long-term sustainability.

• Work closely with technical stakeholders to clarify both functional and non-functional requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of full-stack software engineering experience.

• Proven history of architectural ownership and practical technical leadership.

• Proficient production experience with Python and FastAPI or Flask.

• Solid experience with TypeScript and React.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL and database migration processes.

• Extensive experience in designing and developing REST APIs.

• Experience with legacy GraphQL endpoints and the transition away from them.

• Practical experience with Docker.

• Experience in developing or maintaining data-intensive applications involving large datasets, payloads, or performance-sensitive queries.

• Working knowledge of AWS, especially S3, Athena, and EKS/Kubernetes concepts.

• Understanding of DAG-based orchestration and tools such as Airflow or similar technologies.

• Practical experience using AI coding assistants like Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.

• High proficiency in Mac/Linux terminal environments using Bash and Makefiles.

• Strong capabilities in software architecture and system design.

• Ability to justify technical decisions, question short-term solutions, and balance engineering quality with delivery requirements.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

• Preferred or standout experience with AWS Athena, S3-based data lakes, or Airflow.

• Preferred or standout experience in delivering production AI capabilities using AWS Bedrock, Pydantic AI, LangChain, or similar.

• Preferred or standout experience with Nx, Poetry, UV, Yarn, or other modern monorepo and package management tools.

• Preferred or standout experience with Redis or similar caching technologies.

• Preferred or standout exposure to Trino/Presto, ClickHouse, SageMaker, or other analytics platforms.

• Preferred or standout experience with marketing data structures, campaign management APIs, or digital advertising metrics.

• Preferred or standout familiarity with terminal-first development practices and TUI-based engineering workflows.

• Candidates must currently reside in Latin America.
