This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +16 more states.
• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a small technology enablement team focused on internal tooling, engineering facilitation, and innovation.
• Directly engage in codebases, prototypes, and technical assessments that address intricate technology-enablement requirements and enhance engineering practices.
• Own and advance a technology-enablement strategy by tracking emerging technologies, pinpointing practical opportunities, and transforming them into enterprise-level recommendations.
• Collaborate with application development, architecture, infrastructure, and security teams to promote DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, cloud-native methodologies, and contemporary software delivery practices.
• Design and develop internal tools and platforms that streamline engineering workflows and bolster the software delivery lifecycle.
• Guide teams in adopting new tools and methodologies, eliminate obstacles, and assist them in establishing sustainable ownership following implementation.
• Support the organization’s Azure cloud modernization initiatives, encompassing containerization and cloud-native application capabilities.
• Assess and facilitate the responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools and capabilities to enhance engineering efficiency, decision-making, quality, and business outcomes.
• Foster trusted relationships with peers, technology leadership, and partners throughout the organization to synchronize priorities and expedite progress on major initiatives.
• Oversee talent management, career development, and training initiatives that cultivate capability, accountability, and innovation across the team.
• Reports to the Director of Application Development.
• Travel to the Home Office and other business locations one to two times per quarter for meetings, training sessions, conferences, company events, or other business requirements.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
• A minimum of four years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, or a similar technical field.
• Proven experience in supervising, leading, mentoring, or developing technical associates, engineers, or technologists.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, cloud environments, containerization, or developer-enablement tools.
• Experience in supporting the adoption of software development tools, engineering methodologies, or technology solutions across teams.
• Familiarity with software development, version control, testing, scripting, automation, and maintainable coding practices.
• Knowledge of cloud computing and modern engineering practices; experience with Azure is highly preferred, while exposure to AWS or other cloud environments will be considered.
• Capability to assess technical trade-offs, troubleshoot complex issues, and translate emerging technology trends into actionable recommendations.
• Strong communication, collaboration, change leadership, adaptability, continuous learning, emotional intelligence, and sound problem-solving judgment.
• Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Must be based in one of the 19 states where Indiana Farmers Insurance employs staff: CO, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, WA, or WI.
