This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
β’ Oversee comprehensive tax management for Germany, covering direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, withholding tax, and other pertinent tax issues.
β’ Define the strategic direction and priorities for the German tax agenda, ensuring clear accountability, disciplined execution, and prompt escalation of significant matters.
β’ Lead, nurture, and inspire tax professionals responsible for both German and wider European tax issues.
β’ Enhance team capabilities, clarify roles and responsibilities, and cultivate a culture of high performance, collaboration, and professional growth.
β’ Provide governance, review, and approval for key tax submissions, calculations, positions, and deliverables.
β’ Identify, evaluate, document, manage, and escalate significant tax risks and exposures appropriately.
β’ Manage tax audits, disputes, and controversy issues, including strategy formulation, stakeholder alignment, and engagement with tax authorities and external advisors.
β’ Act as the main tax partner for senior Finance, Treasury, Legal, and business stakeholders on German tax issues.
β’ Collaborate with business teams on commercial transactions, operational issues, supply chain activities, restructuring, and other strategic initiatives.
β’ Supervise external advisor engagements, focusing on scope, quality, delivery, effectiveness, and expenditure management.
β’ Assist with cash tax forecasting, payment readiness, tax accounting processes, and related governance.
β’ Ensure clear and timely visibility over key tax issues, risks, deliverables, and deadlines.
β’ Promote robust operational discipline, process standardization, and continuous enhancement across German and regional tax operations.
β’ Effectively coordinate with specialist tax teams, including transfer pricing, indirect tax, international tax, tax accounting, and controversy.
β’ Provide tax leadership, oversight, or assistance for other European jurisdictions and regional initiatives, as needed.
β’ Contribute to the formulation and execution of the broader European tax strategy and operational model.
β’ A university degree in tax, accounting, law, business administration, or a similar field, preferably combined with qualification as a Steuerberater or equivalent experience.
β’ Extensive tax leadership experience within a multinational or similarly complex organization.
β’ In-depth knowledge of German tax regulations and experience in direct tax, indirect tax, and cross-border issues.
β’ Demonstrated experience in people leadership, with the ability to inspire teams, develop talent, enhance capabilities, and drive performance through others.
β’ Proven track record in setting direction, managing competing priorities, and delivering results within a complex matrixed organization.
β’ Experience in reviewing and overseeing tax filings and deliverables created by internal teams and external providers.
β’ Demonstrated ability to lead significant tax audits, disputes, and controversy matters successfully.
β’ Strong judgment and the capability to identify, assess, manage, and appropriately escalate significant tax issues.
β’ Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills, including experience interacting with senior leadership.
β’ Ability to work independently, make decisions in complex or ambiguous situations, and maintain a no-surprises approach.
β’ Willingness and capability to lead or support tax matters across a broader European portfolio, including jurisdictions outside of Germany.
β’ Proficiency in both English and German.
