This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee and evaluate U.S. federal and state tax compliance engagements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
• Prepare and review U.S. tax returns and associated information reporting, including Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, 1041, 5471, 5472, 8858, and 8865.
• Assess complex tax returns and supporting workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to technical standards.
• Offer technical direction to staff and support them with intricate U.S. tax compliance issues.
• Investigate U.S. federal and state tax legislation and relay significant changes to the team.
• Manage client compliance deadlines, workflow, and priorities for engagements.
• Recognize compliance challenges and opportunities for process enhancements.
• Address client inquiries and provide actionable U.S. tax compliance advice.
• Collaborate with Canadian tax specialists on overlapping U.S. and Canadian tax issues.
• Guide and nurture junior tax professionals, including providing technical reviews and constructive feedback.
• Aid in developing standardized processes, checklists, templates, and technical resources for the U.S. tax practice.
• 5–8 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on U.S. taxation.
• Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing U.S. federal tax returns.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. federal tax compliance obligations.
• Experience in U.S. state tax matters is viewed as beneficial.
• Familiarity with U.S. international information reporting is an advantage.
• Strong capabilities in technical research and problem-solving.
• Proven ability to handle multiple compliance engagements and meet deadlines.
• Exceptional attention to detail and dedication to quality.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and assist junior tax professionals.
• Experience in Canadian tax or cross-border situations is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Possession of a U.S. CPA or IRS Enrolled Agent designation would be advantageous.
