
Tax Auditor β Utility User Tax

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Carry out tax and regulatory assessments on behalf of clients.
β’ Conduct reviews to identify, rectify, and document any deficiencies in client tax or fee revenue.
β’ Analyze taxpayer records for compliance under the guidance of supervisors and management.
β’ Enhance knowledge of tax regulations.
β’ Investigate examination leads and arrange appointments.
β’ Evaluate tax returns, previous audit reports, and relevant data in preparation for audits.
β’ Engage with taxpayers to explain examination processes, address inquiries, and gather necessary information and documentation.
β’ Review and authenticate business and financial records.
β’ Prepare documentation for adjustments and calculate assessments.
β’ Discuss findings with taxpayers or their representatives, clarifying the applicability of tax laws and rulings.
β’ Address taxpayer questions and may participate in hearings for contested cases.
β’ Conduct closing meetings and clarify the laws and facts that justify changes in tax liabilities.
β’ Strive to reach agreements on the findings presented in reports.
β’ Perform additional assigned responsibilities as needed.
β’ Work as necessary to complete tasks efficiently.
β’ Travel as required.
β’ Bachelorβs Degree in Accounting.
β’ At least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
β’ Preferred knowledge or experience in state and local taxation.
β’ CPA or CIA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
β’ Professional background should include experience in corporate accounting and finance.
β’ Experience with state or local revenue departments, compliance audits, and audit defense is preferred.
β’ Strong understanding of accounting principles and excellent analytical skills.
β’ Capability to organize, plan, and direct tasks effectively.
β’ Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
β’ Proficient in collaborating with personnel at all organizational levels.
β’ Strong familiarity with Accounting Systems and Microsoft Office.
β’ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, flexibility, and reliability.
β’ Ability to make decisions in uncertain situations.
β’ Skill in evaluating and identifying potential areas of concern.
β’ Aptitude to comprehend taxpayer and client constraints regarding information provision and diplomatically address these challenges.
β’ Must be capable of remaining stationary for the majority of the day.
β’ Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment.
β’ Occasionally needs to move around within the office.
β’ Frequently communicates via telephone.
