Systems Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Deploy, configure, manage, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers in physical, virtual, and cloud settings.

• Monitor the health, capacity, availability, and performance of infrastructure; respond to alerts and proactively address issues.

• Administer AWS and hybrid-cloud infrastructures, including compute, storage, networking, security groups, IAM, and resource monitoring.

• Oversee Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Entra ID services, managing users, groups, licensing, Group Policy, permissions, authentication, and access controls.

• Maintain DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN connectivity, certificates, and associated configuration standards.

• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems, infrastructure tools, and business applications.

• Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.

• Implement security hardening, vulnerability remediation, privileged-access controls, and configuration enhancements.

• Escalate and resolve complex infrastructure incidents; conduct root-cause analysis and document corrective measures.

• Automate administration, monitoring, reporting, and deployment tasks using scripting and configuration-management tools.

• Maintain inventories of infrastructure, configurations, support records, diagrams, operating procedures, and disaster recovery documentation.

• Manage infrastructure asset and service lifecycles, including capacity planning, renewals, upgrades, vendor coordination, and retirement.

• Collaborate with application, security, network, service desk, and business teams on technology solutions and production changes.

• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and provide rotating on-call support.

• Research and propose enhancements to reliability, security, scalability, automation, and operational efficiency.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

• 5+ years of experience managing Windows and Linux server environments.

• Experience in supporting cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.

• Proficient in administering Microsoft 365 and Active Directory environments.

• Working knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, and networking fundamentals.

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and LAN/WAN principles.

• Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) and identity/access management practices.

• Experience in supporting backup, recovery, and business continuity processes.

• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Microsoft or AWS certifications are preferred.

• Experience with Cisco networking and security technologies is preferred.

• Familiarity with supporting hybrid Microsoft 365 and AWS environments is preferred.

• Exposure to infrastructure security best practices and vulnerability management is preferred.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation after business hours.
