SVP, Head of Engineering – Solutions Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the AI strategy and engineering roadmap for underwriting and related business functions.

• Create and develop AI-first platforms utilizing agentic systems across underwriting, insurance operations, and future areas.

• Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development and code generation tools to enhance developer productivity and quality.

• Collaborate with Data Science to implement models and agents in production, prioritizing engineering and platformization over model research.

• Spearhead the design and implementation of modern, cloud-native architectures within a fully Microsoft Azure environment.

• Build and advance a proprietary AI-enabled underwriting platform from the ground up.

• Engage in hands-on development of core platform services and integrations.

• Define and refine APIs, services, and workflows throughout the underwriting lifecycle.

• Ensure production-grade reliability, scalability, security, and observability.

• Provide technical leadership across the entire stack, including REST-based services and contemporary JavaScript frameworks.

• Support and guide teams utilizing Vue.js and React.

• Ensure UI and platform layers are integrated and designed for rapid iteration and AI-driven processes.

• Develop and scale agent-based AI systems using modern frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and Semantic Kernel.

• Oversee AI infrastructure, orchestration, and deployment pipelines.

• Establish best practices for responsible and scalable AI in production settings.

• Train and mentor engineers on AI tools, agents, and modern development workflows.

• Lead a small core team of 2–3 direct reports while providing technical direction to a larger group of engineers and contractors.

• Influence the team’s technical direction, standards, and development culture.

• Collaborate with Product, Underwriting, Data Science, and Executive Leadership.

• Translate business and underwriting requirements into scalable technical solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert hands-on engineering background with a strong passion for building and coding.

• Extensive experience in developing production AI systems, including agent-based architectures.

• Strong proficiency in Python and applied AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and Semantic Kernel.

• Experience in designing and managing modern, cloud-native platforms on Microsoft Azure.

• Solid background with RESTful services and contemporary backend architectures.

• Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern frameworks, including Vue.js and React, adequate to lead and guide teams.

• Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and code generation tools.

• Proven capability to define and implement a technical roadmap in dynamic environments.

• Experience in underwriting, insurance, or financial services is a plus.

• Familiarity with regulated production environments and explainability requirements is a bonus.

• Experience in extending AI platforms beyond core domains is advantageous.

• Background in building internal developer platforms or proprietary tools is a plus.
