Supplier Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Communicate, interpret, and translate intricate technical data packages and drawing specifications for suppliers.

• Lead engagements with suppliers to evaluate manufacturing capabilities, capacities, opportunities, and technical risks.

• Oversee and address issues related to nonconforming products, including leading Material Review Board activities to determine hardware disposition.

• Implement root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures to tackle quality issues and enhance supplier processes.

• Manage supplier requests for product and process changes, especially those that facilitate production ramp-up.

• Conduct technical assessments of supplier proposals for cost and price analysis.

• Collaborate with Design, Project, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Subcontracts teams on technical matters impacting yield, quality, and schedule.

• Report on supplier technical health, risks, and performance metrics to internal stakeholders.

• Support new product and process development and execute operational plans that yield measurable business outcomes.

• Travel between 25% and 75%, depending on location.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or a graduate degree with at least 7 years of related experience; or, alternatively, a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience without a degree.

• Advanced problem-solving capabilities utilizing DMAIC, 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies.

• Proficiency in engineering software and advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365.

• Familiarity with advanced aerospace materials, including composites, high-temperature/refractory materials, and elastomers/Thermal Protection Systems (TPS).

• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

• Certifications such as Lean Green Belt or Six Sigma Black Belt are preferred.

• Experience with data analytics and emerging digital tools, including AI-enabled solutions.

• Ability to mentor and guide suppliers as well as cross-functional teams.

• Direct experience with Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) components, Divert and Attitude Control Systems (DACS), or missile defense systems.

• A Master’s degree in Engineering Management or a related field is a plus.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare comprehensive supplier health reports, manage supplier relationships, and present technical findings.

• Ability to organize and lead technical discussions, working sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
