This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Oversee the daily operations of the Information Technology team, managing aspects such as workload, payroll, career development, performance evaluations, timecards, vacation scheduling, and on-call rotations.
• Direct professional development initiatives, onboarding processes, training sessions, mentoring, and team-building activities.
• Facilitate the design, development, testing, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of both new and existing systems.
• Guide customer interactions to uncover system solutions, optimize operations, and uphold patient safety and confidentiality.
• Supervise production challenges, escalations, complex testing scripts, documentation, outages, and the restoration of system performance.
• Assess and document operational performance, incidents, service requests, and resolutions for complex systems.
• Utilize reporting workbench, report writers, Chronicle, SQL, advanced Excel macros, and specialized analysis and reporting tools.
• Organize projects, allocate resources, estimate workloads, set milestones, manage vendor communications, provide status updates, implement upgrades, and develop test plans.
• Create and refine processes and procedures, enhance turnaround times, lead team meetings, and escalate issues to management as necessary.
• Conduct or supervise intricate system analyses, design, simulations, and modifications to system processes or data structures.
• Manage application support and deployment across various domains including HR, ER, business, clinical, PACS, EMR/EPIC, cardiology, laboratory, and pharmacy settings.
• Oversee backend operations related to hardware, Unix/Linux, storage, servers, virtualization, security control, SIEM, financial systems, web services, and Epic ancillary services teams.
• Coordinate analytics initiatives, data governance, data quality, data models, pipelines, reporting frameworks, and the delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
• Ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with WVUHS and entity policies.
• A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, computer science, business, informatics, or a related field along with three (3) years of relevant IT experience; OR an Associate’s degree and four (4) years of relevant IT experience; OR a High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of relevant IT experience.
• Internal candidates must fulfill all mandatory competencies in their current role to be eligible for promotion within IT.
• Experience in supporting daily activities of the Information Technology department.
• Technical proficiency in software development, application support, HL7 interfaces, or similar areas.
• Familiarity with Epic clinical and operational workflows, including ambulatory scheduling, registration, inpatient ADT, Clarity, and Caboodle.
• Data literacy and the capability to communicate technical findings to operational and clinical leaders effectively.
• Experience in managing relationships with executive stakeholders and presenting findings, recommendations, and project updates.
• Ability to identify data quality or workflow issues at their source.
• Experience in establishing or enforcing data definitions, lineage, and stewardship standards within Epic and/or Microsoft Fabric environments.
• Proficiency in designing data models, pipelines, and reporting structures using Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, and/or Power BI.
• Proven experience in managing analytics teams, including recruitment, mentoring, talent development, and overseeing multiple simultaneous analytics projects.
• Demonstrated project management skills, including scoping tasks, setting deadlines, managing competing priorities, and ensuring timely delivery.
• Capability to balance competing priorities from multiple executive sponsors while building credibility across clinical, operational, and IT domains.
• Ability to manage confidential information responsibly.
• Capacity to work independently, collaboratively, in high-stress situations, and in rapidly evolving environments.
• Ability to engage with multidisciplinary groups and facilitate meetings effectively.
• Proficient in reading, comprehension, typing, oral and written communication, prioritization, independent decision-making, project coordination, and mentoring skills.
• May require additional certification within a specified timeframe.
• Availability to participate in on-call duties and travel to WVUHS facilities or affiliated locations as needed.
• Home-based/remote work designation.
• Certification training provided by WVUHS Information Technology.
• 40 scheduled weekly hours.
• Exempt status.
