Substation Structural Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Utilize civil/structural engineering concepts and project management expertise to execute project tasks from initiation to completion.

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to achieve project objectives.

• Address construction challenges, particularly those related to reinforced concrete, ensuring client satisfaction.

• Conduct structural design and analysis for substation facilities, encompassing equipment foundations, steel support structures, control buildings, cable trench systems, and rigid bus structures.

• Coordinate with electrical engineering teams regarding the physical layout of substations and the integration of equipment.

• Oversee project budgets, timelines, and quality standards.

• Adhere to and enhance company design protocols and standards within the Power Delivery industry.

• Assume responsibility as the engineer of record for civil/structural engineering design projects as relevant experience accumulates.

• Review or assign reviews of project-related design documents, including fabrication shop drawings.

• Examine design codes and implement appropriate design standards.

• Perform value engineering assessments to identify cost-effective design solutions.

• Conduct occasional site visits to evaluate construction quality.

• Aid in proposals by providing technical insights and scope development.

• Offer occasional site visits, design evaluations, and proposal assistance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (mandatory).

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, ideally within the energy, utilities, or renewable power sectors.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state (or the ability to obtain one).

• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, and Lpile preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Familiarity with relevant design codes (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NESC, IBC, etc.).

• Experience in the design and detailing of reinforced concrete and steel structures.

• Background in preparing construction documents, design calculations, and reviewing drawings.

• Experience working collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams to support project scopes.

• Knowledge of compliance processes related to structural design in the U.S.

• Capability to work from Canada or a U.S. office/remote location.
