This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Assess and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, studies, and calculations created by EPC contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
• Confirm that designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and specific requirements set by the owner, including IEEE, NESC, and utility standards.
• Offer technical direction on designs related to substations, transmission lines, civil and structural elements, distribution, and protection and control systems.
• Engage in design evaluations, constructability reviews, and discussions on value engineering.
• Assist project managers by converting technical challenges into actionable strategies.
• Examine vendor submissions, equipment data sheets, FAT/SAT results, and testing reports.
• Aid in the development and implementation of engineering standards and best practices.
• Provide technical assistance during construction phases, including responding to RFIs, resolving field issues, and clarifying design aspects.
• Assess technical risks and propose mitigation strategies impacting costs, schedules, and system reliability.
• Monitor engineering deliverables and guarantee prompt resolution of technical challenges.
• Act as a technical advocate and reliable advisor to the project owner.
• Ensure oversight, coordination, and quality assurance throughout the planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning stages.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Over ten (10+) years of hands-on experience in substation protection and control design.
• Capability to lead substation design projects by ensuring alignment of engineering execution with program management goals.
• Some site visits to client substation facilities may be necessary.
• Occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events may be required.
