This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assess current energetics, propellant, pyrotechnic, chemical processing, utility, and hazardous industrial systems.
• Direct the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of systems that involve propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, pressurized gases, and cryogenic fluids.
• Conduct studies for hazardous area classification.
• Utilize NFPA and other relevant industry standards to establish electrical area classifications and safety protocols.
• Create process safety analyses, hazard assessments, HAZOPs, explosives safety reviews, regulatory compliance assessments, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Assist in modernization planning for facilities related to energetics, propellant, pyrotechnic, chemical processing, bulk material handling, and hazardous operations.
• Assess and document the safe handling, storage, and transport of unserviceable ammunition and explosives.
• Execute Resource Recovery and Recycling protocols and mandates for material disposition.
• Ensure adherence to EPA Military Munitions Rule and RCRA hazardous-waste shipping regulations.
• Support the planning of facility layouts, equipment selection, specifications, technical data-sheet reviews, vendor coordination, technical evaluations, and design documentation.
• Engage in design reviews, safety assessments, operational readiness evaluations, site visits, field investigations, technical walkdowns, client workshops, and presentations.
• Evaluate instrumentation, interlocks, permissives, alarms, remote operation, and monitoring strategies.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams to integrate energetic and hazardous-operation requirements into facility design.
• Assess methods for storage, transfer, handling, and disposal of energetic materials and propellants.
• Lead or conduct investigations into root causes and develop corrective actions.
• Assist with proposals, defining project scopes, estimates, budgets, schedules, and narratives for technical approaches related to federal opportunities.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Over 8 years of progressively responsible experience in energetics, propellants, pyrotechnics, chemical processing, defense industrial base facilities, or comparable hazardous industrial environments.
• Preferred experience with ammunition, explosives, energetics, propellants, pyrotechnics, chemical manufacturing, or similar commodities.
• Experience working with Department of War, federal, defense contractors, aerospace, specialty chemical, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical industrial clients.
• Proven ability to produce engineering calculations, technical reports, design criteria, technical narratives, specifications, equipment data sheets, and design documentation.
• Experience in explosives safety, hazardous area classification, process safety analyses, hazard reviews, risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and compliance with NFPA 497.
• Experience leading and collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex industrial, federal EPC, design-build, or modernization projects.
• Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, and industry-specific safety standards.
• Experience collaborating on PHAs, HAZOPs, or similar risk assessments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain necessary site access, security clearance, or customer-required credentials.
• U.S. citizenship is required for access to certain DoD-titled AA&E facilities.
• Active or recently held Department of War security clearance is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel-based engineering calculations, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, and relevant modeling or analytical platforms.
• Skilled in engineering calculations, process modeling, and technical documentation.
• Capable of conducting site visits and field investigations, accessing industrial, manufacturing, and construction environments, occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, and wearing necessary PPE.
• Flexible to work in various settings, including industrial, laboratory, aerospace, test stand, field, hybrid, office, and remote locations.
• Willing to travel 10% to 25% based on project assignments and field activities.
