Subject Matter Expert – Java, AWS, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Java-based applications, AWS cloud infrastructures, and AI-driven solutions.

• Offer insights on system architecture, solution design, and best practices for implementation.

• Facilitate technical discussions and provide guidance to development teams on intricate issues and design choices.

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable Java applications and services.

• Architect and support cloud-native solutions utilizing AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, EKS, CloudFormation, IAM, and other relevant tools.

• Assess, recommend, and integrate AI/ML tools, frameworks, and services.

• Assist in modernization initiatives, including the migration of legacy applications to cloud-based platforms.

• Ensure that solutions comply with performance, security, reliability, and regulatory standards.

• Diagnose production issues and conduct root cause analysis.

• Collaborate with product owners, engineers, architects, testers, and other stakeholders.

• Review technical documentation, standards, and procedures.

• Mentor team members through coaching, performance reviews, and training sessions.

• Keep abreast of emerging technologies in Java, AWS, cloud architecture, and AI.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 14 years of experience, or 10 years of experience with a Master’s degree.

• Extensive experience in Java development and object-oriented programming.

• Strong practical experience with AWS cloud services and cloud architecture.

• Proven experience with AI/ML concepts, tools, or platforms.

• Experience in designing and delivering scalable enterprise applications.

• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile methodologies, and DevOps practices.

• Experience with API development, microservices, and distributed systems.

• Knowledge of security best practices in both cloud and application development.

• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• The selected candidate must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

• Preferred: Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, and RESTful APIs.

• Preferred: Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AWS automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

• Preferred: Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks, prompt engineering, or generative AI solutions.

• Preferred: Experience with monitoring and observability tools.

• Preferred: Prior experience in a lead or advisory technical role.
