Staff/Senior Backend Engineer, Node.js

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Enhance and expand the backend systems that support the Mimica platform (MERN stack).

• Design and execute a scalable architecture, developing and optimizing backend services and APIs.

• Elevate the performance and reliability of existing components.

• Assume operational responsibility for the solutions you create.

• Participate in architectural decisions and collaborate with teams to identify and implement product enhancements.

• Develop and refine a real-time backend service.

• Create libraries and develop APIs within our Node.js backend.

• Identify fault-tolerance and availability issues, as well as performance bottlenecks, and address them effectively.

• Refactor components and services while documenting your implementations.

• Offer constructive feedback to colleagues through pair programming and code reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in backend engineering, concentrating on building high-performance production software and scalable architectures.

• At least 8 years of experience as a Software Engineer.

• Mastery of JavaScript/TypeScript, with experience in modern frameworks and technologies (e.g., Docker, K8s) for developing high-throughput, low-latency systems.

• Practical knowledge in API design and database management (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB), with a strong focus on query optimization and efficient data storage & handling.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles and techniques – including microservices, load balancing, caching, horizontal/vertical scaling, and stateless architectures.

• Dedication to maintaining high engineering standards, emphasizing code quality, maintainability, reliability, and security.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities – systematically breaking down systems to identify bottlenecks, ascertain root causes, and implement effective solutions.

• Eagerness to continuously develop your skills, enhance team processes, and minimize technical debt.

• Proficiency in English with effective communication skills – clearly articulating complex ideas, concepts, and trade-offs.
