This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop, report, write, and produce stories of various lengths focusing on the intersection of climate change with food and agriculture.
• Create 4–5 stories each month, with lengths ranging from 600 to 1,500 words.
• Interpret significant trends and news to provide clear context regarding the effects of a warming planet on daily lives.
• Monitor emissions in the agriculture sector and ensure accountability among companies.
• Clarify the impact of climate change on dietary choices and food production.
• Analyze food and agricultural policy changes from the USDA and state agencies.
• Report on scientific advancements and climate solutions involving researchers and farmers.
• Evaluate if solutions can be scaled at state or national levels and identify potential drawbacks.
• Address equity issues related to human-focused climate narratives.
• Contribute to newsletters, special projects, and other initiatives as needed.
• Share skills and insights with colleagues while learning from their expertise.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience, ideally with a focus on climate, food, and agriculture.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven reporting experience, along with a strong interest and knowledge in climate issues.
• A history of covering stories of national significance and impact.
• Experience in uncovering sharp, thought-provoking angles on current news.
• Familiarity with magazine-style journalism.
• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Proficiency with technology, social media, and digital tools relevant to journalism.
• Skilled in using desktop writing and web technologies for news gathering and publishing.
• Exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and maintain ethical conduct with sources, story subjects, and readers.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.
• Demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy, with the ability to engage with individuals at all organizational levels.
• Submission of a resume and cover letter is mandatory.
