Staff VFX Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop visually captivating effects that enhance the game's characters, environments, props, and more.

• Utilize Unreal Engine to produce both 2D and 3D visual effects that align with the artistic vision.

• Collaborate closely with the Creative Director, Art Directors, and design leads to ensure VFX supports game feel, mechanics, and character identity.

• Contribute to the shaping of VFX direction.

• Construct and refine VFX workflows and tools for assigned areas within the Lead VFX Artist’s pipeline.

• Address complex VFX and rendering challenges and transform solutions into reusable systems and documentation.

• Evaluate and authorize VFX assets for quality and alignment with the game’s stylized aesthetic.

• Report directly to the Lead VFX Artist.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional VFX experience in the video game industry.

• A portfolio showcasing high-quality stylized effects and experience taking ownership of parts of a project.

• Proven experience in creating effects that enhance artistic style and game functionality.

• Expertise in stylization, lighting, and color theory.

• Extensive experience with Unreal Engine and Niagara, including blueprints, custom material networks, shaders, sprite sheets, post-process FX, and physics simulation including VAT.

• Ability to establish best practices surrounding Unreal Engine and Niagara.

• Strong understanding of forward and deferred rendering pipelines.

• Proficient in lighting systems and post-process effects.

• Knowledgeable in performance optimization at scale.

• Familiarity with Houdini, Substance Designer, and Maya.
