Staff Software Engineer, Test Systems & Tooling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance tools for test cells that simulate production environments in terms of topology, configuration, and behavior.

• Develop capabilities for workload generation, multi-tenant testing, stress/load testing, and traffic replay or similar functionalities.

• Create tools for consistent failure-mode testing, which includes latency, dependency faults, resource exhaustion, degraded-state recovery, and regional failures.

• Identify challenging system-level scenarios and implement repeatable continuous or release validation coverage.

• Develop shared libraries, harnesses, and patterns specifically for system and integration testing.

• Mentor engineers and shape testing strategies through design documentation, code reviews, and collaboration across teams.

• Collaborate with Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, and Release Engineering teams to transform incident insights into pre-production coverage and validation in the release pipeline.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles.

• Experience in building and maintaining production-quality systems, including platforms, infrastructure, developer tooling, or distributed systems.

• Proven track record of providing technical leadership in ambiguous, cross-team projects.

• Familiarity with observability, debuggability, and operational readiness, including metrics, logs, tracing, safe rollouts, and failure analysis.

• Ability to work collaboratively across Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, Release Engineering, and product teams.

• Excellent written communication skills for crafting design documents, proposing testing strategies, and creating documentation.

• Experience in chaos engineering, fault injection, workload replay/shadowing, performance testing, or multi-tenant test strategies is a plus.

• Experience in developing internal engineering platforms, paved roads, self-service environments, or shared frameworks is a plus.

• Familiarity with measuring engineering/system outcomes is a plus.
